PROGRAM OR FACILITY SUGGESTIONS?
Do you have a suggestion for a new program or facility? We are
always looking for new, innovative ideas to include with our program
and facility offerings. If so, you can call or write to Lenoir
City Parks and Recreation at the address below.
TOWN CREEK GREENWAY – PHASE II
Phase II of our Town Creek Greenway system is scheduled to be completed
by the end of May, 2006. The additional trail will begin at the
Rock Springs Park area, run along the creek through the Wampler
Keith Park and commence at the Lenoir City Middle School property.
It will actually end adjacent to the new Lenoir City Swimming Pool
Complex. Phase II will add approximately 1.25 miles of trail to
our greenway which will make the total length 1.75 miles one way.
So from Broadway to the middle school and back would be 3.5 miles
in length.
The new addition will be an 8 foot wide, concrete trail consisting
of 5 total bridge crossings. There will be 2 wood foot bridges and
3 long steel bridges. Benches and trash receptacles will be placed
throughout the trail area for people to use. There will also be
3 road crossings at McGhee Blvd., Simpson Road and Town Creek Road.
All road crossings will be striped and signage will be installed
to assure that all pedestrians are safe from vehicle traffic.
Because of budget constraints, Phase II will not be lighted when
first opened to the public. We would encourage anyone who would
like to walk at night to continue to use Phase I until we are able
to light the addition. It is our desire to at least provide some
temporary lighting in some parts of the trail.
We want to encourage everyone to keep an eye open for the soon Grand
Opening of Phase II and to be sure and use the trail as soon as
it is finished. If you have any questions or comments please contact
the Parks and Recreation Office at 986-1223.
SWIMMING POOL UPDATE
Construction on the new Lenoir City Swimming Pool Complex is presently
underway and the contractor is trying his best to have the facility
open by July 4th weekend. The pool is going to be 6 lanes by 25
yards which is large enough to handle swim competitions. A splash
pad area next to the pool should be a big attraction for the younger
folks. And the pool will also have a state of the art pool house
to handle everyone’s needs.
The City is looking into the possibility of covering the pool during
the winter months in order to have the facility open year-round.
For more information please contact the Parks and Recreation Office
at 986-1223.
